Lithuanian restaurants When in a foreign country, one of the main tourist questions revolves around “a good place to eat”. As impressions about the same restaurant may differ radically from person to person, and evaluations tend to be rather subjective even referring to the same criteria, I will give a short overview of the cuisines and menus foreign tourists may expect to find in the Lithuanian restaurants. Here, the restaurants of three largest Lithuanian cities, including the capital Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda, have been reviewed.

With numerous restaurants conveniently located in the Old Town area, Vilnius boasts the widest choice of catering services in Lithuania. Guests who prefer European cuisine can find British (The PUB), Czech (Pas Rudolfa II), Hungarian (Csarda), Romanian (Transilvanija), French (Les Amis, Saint Germain, Stikliai, etc.), Italian (Rossini, Sole Luna, Sorrento, St. Valentino, etc.), Irish (The Dubliner), Polish (Ponas Tadas), Spanish (Barcelona, Salero) and Ukrainian (Ukrainos Vakarai) restaurants. For the lovers of Oriental food, there are Japanese (Helios Sushi, Kabuki, Miyako), Thai (GCW Thai Gourmet) and a number of Chinese restaurants. Those who would like to try something of the more uncommon cuisines, can find Argentinean (El Gaucho Sano), Armenian (Achtamar), Egyptian (Memnono kolosai), Jewish (Kineret), Kazakh (Cingischanas), Mexican (Meksika), Turkish (Sultan’s Doner Kebab) and Russian (Cagino, Lukomorje, etc.) restaurants. If you are eager to taste local food, you can do it at Aukstaiciai, Belmontas, Lokys and other restaurants serving solely traditional Lithuanian food or international cuisine restaurants.

Pizza fans can appease their hunger at a number of pizza restaurants which are indeed abundant in the city (Cili Pizza, Mambo Pizza, Pizza Jazz restaurants). Popular fast food restaurants include Gusto Blynines and McDonald’s restaurants. At Balti Drambliai and Sue’s Indian Raja, visitors can order vegetarian food. And those who are looking for good wine should visit Vyno Klubas (Wine Club) - a bar, a club and a wine school in one.

Naturally, Kaunas offers a more modest number of restaurants, but still has a wide variety of great places to eat. Those who have decided to go out can try Italian (Bella Italia, Pas Paolo, Papa Jazz, etc.), Spanish (Amigos), Russian (Sudaruska, Legenda) German (in Tilsit), American (Mini Donald ir Co, Arena Pizza, McDonald’s, etc.), Azerbaijanian (Piti), Armenian (Araratas), Egyptian (Ramzis II), Japanese (Yakata, Sinto), Chinese (Fu Long, Sichuan, Svarstykles, etc.) as well as Indian (Radharanė) cuisines. Almost all of the restaurants mentioned in the brackets are situated in the city centre, others are easily found as they are located next to the main roads of the city. Traditional Lithuanian food is served in many restaurants, and there are also restaurants where Lithuanian food is their speciality. Among these are Berneliu Uzeiga, cili Kaimas, Smukle Centre and some others.

Avilys invites city guests to try something of their original menu featuring dishes made with beer such as smoked meat salad in beer dressing, beer-stewed mussels, beer-marinated salmon roast, beer soup, beer ice-cream and Cappucino beer. Wine lovers are always welcome at the Geras Vyno Rūsys restaurant, where you can choose from up to one hundred different wines.

Restaurants in Klaipeda also offer a choice of cuisines: Armenian (Ararat, Musonas, Pasimatymas), Italian (Dolce Vita, Eldorado, Googie Woogie PICA, etc.), Russian (Ferdinandas, Metelica, Stora Antis), Chinese (Kinu Restoranas, Kinu Virtuve, Feniksas, etc.), Swiss (Haemmerli), Turkish (Dagilis), Near East (Sindbado Oaze)… In Klaipeda, The same as in Vilnius and Kaunas, Lithuanian specialities are in
cluded in the menus of restaurants serving European and international dishes.
