Sometimes patients think that a plastic surgeon can make a miracle out of their body, transform them into a woman or a man of such ideal beauty that our mother nature has hardly ever seen… Life without wrinkles eventually becomes the credo of contemporary society. Such life may be given to us by the plastic aesthetic surgery, which, due to economic and social problems, is still just boring into our families. The process of senescence is inevitable: not the wrinkled face flourishes people, but their wisdom and experience. An ideal case is when both the spouses are concerned about it and both search for ways to rejuvenate. Another problem persists when a family has children with innate defects. Will they be happy if the image of the “ugly duckling” will haunt them from the very childhood? Gintaras Papeckys, working as a plastic surgeon in Kaunas, has dedicated more than thirteen years helping people, creating beauty. The doctor had internship in St. Luke University hospital in Belgium, took part in conferences in Greece, America, France, Czech Republic.
As Papeckys notices, plastic aesthetic surgery changes our attitude to aging. Men and women want to be beautiful at any stage of their lives. While hurrying through life at a cosmic speed, time can only be stopped with the help of “technical means”.
Contemporary beauty surgery does not make what is impossible. It helps a person feel happy even at an old age. Many patients expect that a plastic surgeon will make a miracle out of their body, transform them into a woman or a man of such ideal beauty that our mother nature has hardly ever seen… Such hopes are unrealistic. However, the practice of plastic surgery shows that, indeed, there are exceptional cases when plastic surgery becomes the servant of sickly wishes to acquire unrealistic body shapes imagined as ideal, seeking for sensation or records. Remember Lolo Ferrari with her gigantic breasts.
The practical aesthetic surgery does not seek any records. It refuses to create “ideal” beauty, and it is not an empire exclusively for the rich and famous. The aim of the contemporary beauty surgery is to stop the process of aging and help every of us look younger, more beautiful and more attractive. “When my patient hears somebody saying to him or her: ‘You are not aging, you are as beautiful as in your young days’, it is the best evaluation of my endeavour”, says the specialist of plastic aesthetic surgery. Women start aging much earlier than men. The first wrinkles appear around 25, while men get them after 30 years old. A man is still in the apex of flourishing, while a woman of the same age gets particular changes on her skin.
For this reason, women should start taking care of their look much earlier. Initially, we recommend minor preventive procedures with actively functioning creams which contain fruit acids (AHA). Such means smooth small wrinkles and tighten skin.
In her 35, a female will not be able to fight the time only with the help of creams. Wrinkles from nose nostrils to the corners of mouth get longer, mimic wrinkles show up. Because of the atrophy of fat tissue, face cheeks sink in. The surgeon recommends a little more “aggressive” procedures, which are not complicated. It is micro-suction, transplantation of fat or injections with Botox or Matridex to the mimic wrinkles.
Male skin is tighter, so micro-suction or transplantation of fat is recommended in their forties, when changes in the lower eyelids and cheeks appear. The critical limit for the fair sex is after forties. Marks of aging are clearly seen: skin loses elasticity, becomes flabby and wrinkles. Smiling wrinkles, double chin and bags under the eyes appear.
A plastic surgeon evaluates the traces of age with the help of computer and recommends ways of correcting those changes. At this point, surgical intervention is usually offered as the excess of skin should be eliminated. Sunken cheeks are flattened using implants (synthetic and biological) and the patient’s tissues. There is also a special procedure to correct the “turkey’s” neck. All these procedures are applied to men as well.
After childbearing, women experience changes of the breast shape. They collapse like air balloons, lose elasticity, wither and become flabby. Implants are the most popular means to adorn the breasts. After the surgery, the breasts become even more beautiful than before childbearing. Such operations are not news.
It has come to assertion that psychological barriers concerning plastic surgery are overcome with much more difficulty than any economic shortages. There were cases when a husband did not let his wife, the mother of his children, use such services of the surgeon because he liked his wife the way she was.
Women sometimes decide to outfox their husbands and have operations done secretly, although it is not simple. Say, after a liposuction procedure, bruises on the body remain for almost a month. Can it be concealed from a man whom you are sharing one bed with?
Secret in the beauty sphere is important. Maybe this is the reason why public discussions on this issue are shunned in our society. But it should be openly discussed in family. It is a much greater joy for the plastic surgeon and the patients when both the spouses discuss between themselves and agree on the variant which would suit them best. According to the plastic surgeon Gintaras Papeckys, Lithuanian men should be more tolerant regarding the wishes of their beloved; they shouldn’t stick to their negative approach to aesthetic surgery. A wife is not a personal slave, but a free and independent person. Families who have seen the world and travelled a lot are more democratic to the beauty revived by “technical means”. Another burning problem is children. Innate anomalies may traumatize them spiritually. A typical example is problems with ears, which are recommended to be solved when children are 5-6 years old, as they are not studying at school yet. Scars remaining after burning are also suggested to be corrected before adolescence, the period when teenagers become very concerned about their appearance. “Hare lips” are recommended to be corrected soon after the child is born, even without leaving the hospital after birth.
So when famous people who are over their forties do not have any wrinkles on the face and their age is unnameable, and they create fairy-tales about the saving yoga, food and other, don’t believe them. Usually, it is the result of a careful work of a plastic surgeon and dermatologist.
