The blues group “Senas Kuinas” (The Old Nag) was founded in 1987. The generator of ideas and guitarist Vilijus Važnevičius, who previously performed with other musicians, with an old hippie and drummer Aleksandras Jegorovas, whom others call Džyza and who traveled through half of the former USSR, and Audrius Azguridžis, who made attempts in “becoming friends” with a bass guitar, decided to see what were their joint creative possibilities. The enthusiasm and patience and the search for common style bore the first fruit – the group had been heard of. The group with its own texts and its sharp musical expression had become a welcome guest among the students and academic youth, and the hit song of the group “Valtis” (The Boat) had become its business card. After playing together for several years, the musicians separated, however “Senas Kuinas” remained as the group. Vilijus continued to compose and performed with other musicians. In 1988 Vilijus, Audrius and Džyza met again. Encouraged by internal means of creative self-expression, some of the nostalgia about the “old times” and also guided by the desire to perform in simple and live style in contradiction to this computer psychosis, which won over so many people, they had decided to try again. After some time they had been convinced that the common viewpoint on life itself had not only remained, but also gained some philosophical touch, which reflected in the creative work. It is true to say that “Senas Kuinas” distinguishes itself among the flow of the dominant present-day music groups. First of all, its distinction evidences in its texts and lively and clearly expressed sound of the guitar, where in both cases major contributions are made by Vilijus. The musical activities of the group had been influenced and are still influenced by such well-known musicians and blues performers as J.Hendrix, B.B.King, E.Clapton, “Rolling Stones”, Polish blouse performer Tadeušas Nalepa.
