The Surgery
The uplift of breasts (mastopexy) usually takes about one and a half to three and a half hours. There are many different methods, but the mostly used is an anchor-shaped incision following the natural contour of the breast.
This incision sketches the zone from which breast skin is removed and defines the new place for the nipple. After removing the surplus skin, the nipple and the areola are moved higher. The skin around the areola is brought down and together to change the shape of the breast. Stitches are usually around the areola in a vertical line expanding downwards from the nipple area, and down the lower wrinkle of the breast.
Patients who have small breasts and minimal sagging may require less extensive incisions. Such procedures are called “doughnut (or concentric) mastopexy”, where circular incisions are made around the areola, and doughnut shaped zone is detached.
If a patient is having an implant inserted and breast uplift at the same time, it will be put in a pocket under the breast tissue or under the muscle of the chest wall.

After Your Surgery
After the operation the patient has to wear an elastic bandage or a surgical bra over gauze dressings. For a few days you can feel uncomfortable about your breasts, but the pain should not be harsh. Any discomfort can be relieved with medicaments that your surgeon prescribes.
After few days the bandages or surgical bra have to be restored by a support bra. This bra has to be worn about three or four weeks. The stitches are removed after a week or two.
A moisturizer used several times a day is very useful if your skin is too dry. However, you have to keep it away from the stitched areas.
The lack of sensation usually disappears after six weeks. Sometimes, it may last longer, about a year or even more, and seldom may it be permanent.
