₤ 1000 +VAT (21%) per surgery If You’re Considering a Browlift... A browlift procedure helps to create a more youthful, refreshed appearance to the forehead. The procedure involves the lifting of drooping brows and the improvement of the horizontal lines that may make a person look aged, weary or even angry. During a browlift procedure, the surgeon removes or alters the muscles and tissues causing furrows or drooping. The forehead is smoothed, the eyebrows are raised and the frown lines are minimized. In endoscopic browlift, the procedure is carried out using an endoscope, a viewing instrument that enables an operation with minimal incisions. The result of the procedure is smoother forehead skin and a younger, more refreshed visage. If you’re thinking of undergoing browlift, this information will give you general understanding of the procedure – when it can improve your appearance, how it’s done, and what outcomes may be expected. However, it can’t cover all questions you may have because many answers depend on individual circumstances.
The Best Candidates For a Forehead Lift A browlift is usually performed when a person is 40-60 years old to reduce the visible signs of aging. However, browlift is also performed to people with furrows or frown lines which have developed as a result of stress or muscle activity. People having inherited features like furrowed lines above the nose or low, heavy brow can achieve a refreshed appearance with a browlift. Browlift is often combined with a facelift to give a smoother appearance to the face. Eyelid surgery may also be performed in conjunction with a browlift, particularly if the skin of the upper eyelids is significantly overhanging. Sometimes, patients who think they need upper-eyelid surgery discover that a browlift is better to achieve their surgical goals. Bald patients or people with a receding hairline, or those who have had previous upper-eyelid surgery may still undergo a browlift. Have in mind that a browlift may improve your look and boost your self-confidence, but it won’t necessarily alter your appearance to equal your ideal or make other people treat you in a different way. Before deciding to undergo the surgery, consider your expectations and discuss them with your doctor.
All Surgery Carries Some Uncertainty and Risk When a browlift procedure is carried out by a qualified plastic surgery specialist, complications are rare and usually minor. However, the risks exist. In rare cases, the nerves that control eyebrow movement may be impaired damaging one or both sides above the eyes and a loss of ability to raise the eyebrows or wrinkle the forehead may ensue. To correct the problem, another surgery may be needed. Although a broad scar is rare, it can happen. An additional surgery would be required to remove the wide scar tissue for a thinner scar. Some people may also lose hair along the edges of the scar. Loss of sensation along the incision line is common. Although it is normally temporary, it may be permanent sometimes. Other rare complications include bleeding and infection. The risk of complications may be lessened by strictly following your surgeon’s directions before and after the surgery.
Planning Your Surgery During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will evaluate the skin and the underlying bone of your face and discuss your goals for the surgery. Your surgeon will inquire about certain medical conditions that could trigger problems like uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood-clotting problems or the tendency to develop large scars. Let your surgeon know if have had facial surgery before, if you are a smoker, or if you take any drugs or medications. If you decide to have a facelift, you will be informed about the chosen surgery techniques and anaesthesia, the type of facility where the procedure will be done, the potential risks and costs involved. If you have questions or concerns, discuss them with your doctor without hesitation.
Preparing For Your Surgery You will be given detailed instructions on how to prepare for the surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications. Closely following these instructions you may expect that your surgery and recovery period will go more smoothly. If your hair is shortly-cut, you can let it grow out before surgery, so that it will be long enough to cover the scars while they heal. While preparing for the surgery, make sure that someone will be able to drive you home after your surgery and be near for a few days if any help will be needed.
Anaesthesia Used For The Procedure Browlift is mostly performed under local anaesthesia, together with a sedative to make you drowsy. You’ll remain conscious but relaxed and pain-free. However, you may have a sensation of some tugging or a little discomfort. Some surgeons may prefer a general anaesthesia. In such case, you’ll be put to sleep for the duration of the procedure.
The Surgery Before the endoscopic browlift, the hair is tied back and trimmed behind the hairline where the incisions will be made. The surgeon makes several small incisions in the scalp (about 1 inch in length). An endoscope, which is a pencil-like camera instrument connected to a television monitor, is introduced through one of the small incisions, letting the surgeon to see the muscles and tissues under the skin. With another device introduced through a different incision, the forehead skin is raised and the brow muscles are removed or altered. The eyebrows may also be lifted and secured into their higher position by sutures beneath the skin’s surface or by temporary fixation screws placed behind the hairline. When the browlift is done, the incisions are closed with stitches or clips and the area is cleaned. Gauze and an elastic bandage may also be applied to the incision sites.
After Your Surgery Endoscopic browlift patients may feel some numbness, incision discomfort and mild swelling. Typically, incision site pain is minimal, but if necessary, you can control it with the help of medication your doctor will prescribe. The stitches or staples used to close the incisions are usually removed within 1 week and the temporary fixation screws within 2 weeks.
Getting Back to Normal Although patients should be up and about by the next day, he/she should continue taking it easy for at least the first week following surgery. You should be able to shower and shampoo your hair within a couple of days or as soon as the bandage is removed. Almost always, patients are ready to return to work or school within 5 to 10 days after the surgery. However, patients should avoid vigorous physical activity for several weeks. Prolonged sun and heat exposure should be limited for several months. Most of the visible signs of surgery should disappear within about three weeks. Slight swelling and bruising can be masked with special camouflage makeup.
Your New Look Most patients are satisfied with the results of a browlift. Patients often don’t realize how much their drooping forehead added to an aged visage until they see how much more youthful and rested they look after the procedure. Browlift doesn’t stop the time, but it can eliminate the signs of aging for a long period. As years pass, patients may repeat the lift.
